Shiny Reindeer Embroidered Hoop Art

I’m very excited to be participating in Bugs and Fishes Crafty Christmas Link-Up! I designed this Shiny Reindeer Embroidery project just for the link up, and hope you guys decide to give it a whirl!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
Shiny Reindeer Materials Needed

  • White(ish) Wool Felt (approx. 9″ square)
  • Holiday print fabric (approx. 9″ square)
  • 8″ Wood Embroidery Hoop
  • Assorted Embroidery Floss
  • Embroidery Needle
  • Glue
  • Printed Embroidery Pattern & Transfer supplies
  • First up, download & print out the PDF Pattern:

Next, transfer the pattern onto your fabric. You can use any method you like, but what I do is trace the back of the pattern (with the help of a light table) with a Sulky transfer pen:

Then, I just iron the pattern onto the felt square:

Now you’re ready to stitch! I just used the back stitch for everything, but feel free to get fancy with your stitches (if you’re into that kind of thing). I used 3 strands of floss for everything except the Reindeer’s nose & eye – I only used 2 strands of floss for those.

Once your deer is all stitched up, you cut around the image in a circle. I used a very scientific method to cut mine out. I found a cereal bowl in the cupboard that was the size circle I wanted, and traced around it with a water soluble marker. Then, cut out the circle with scissors:

Now that you have your circle, you place your holiday print fabric in your 8″ wood embroidery hoop. Center the felt circle on top, and stitch into place using a running stitch.

To finish up, just fold over your excess holiday fabric and glue to the hoop:

(If you wanna be super classy, you can use two pieces of fabric – wrong sides together – so from the back of your hoop you see a nice piece of fabric instead of the back of your work).

I hope you like the pattern! Please let me know if you decide to stitch it up, I’d love to see your work! Also, let me know if you have any questions about the tutorial.
