Romantic Movies for Valentine’s Day

Eagle vs Shark Valentine meme

Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I thought I’d do a quick post with some of my all-time favorite romantic movies. I am a total mush when it comes to love, but I’m not a big fan of most traditional “romantic comedies.” Here’s my list in order of release date:

The Apartment (1960)

This movie gets me every time…it manages to have pointed things to say about how men in power abuse that power, while also being a sweet love story. Double whammy.

A Patch of Blue (1965)

Another double whammy. Will make you fall in love with Sidney Poitier.

Harold & Maude (1971)

This movie shouldn’t work, but it does. (Fair warning, the main character has a penchant for staging his own death – so the trailer is a bit gruesome). Will make you fall in love with LIFE.

A Life Less Ordinary (1997)

Time jump! (No romantic movies made in the 80s, apparently). You cannot go wrong with Ewan McGregor and his Carol Brady shag hairdo. Love across class lines, and a madcap caper!

Amelie (2001)

Quirky, french love. Need I say more?

Eagle vs. Shark (2007)

Awkward love. I can’t believe it’s been so many years since this movie came out!

So, that’s my list. What are you’re favorite romantic movies?
