WIP Wednesday: Beth Ditto Embroidery & Creativebug Classes

Beth Ditto embroidery WIP

If you’re following me on Instagram, you may have seen my current work in progress already, but I have gotten a bit more done on it. I actually ran out of floss, so I had to make a run for supplies today. Inspired by how much fun I had working on my Dolly Parton project – I’ve decided to do a series of embroideries based on my favorite female musicians. So, I’m working on Beth Ditto now…because how awesome is she?

If you’re not familiar, here are two of my favorite videos:

…and a duet with another one of my faves, Jarvis Cocker:

I’m hoping to get finished soon. I ordered some wool felt, which I’m going to use for her hair (rather than satin stitching a large field of black. I’ve done that before, and it’s not fun). Once Beth is done, I’ll be moving on to Janelle Monáe.

I’m also currently working on designing my first fabric. I’m watching the “How to Design Fabric” online class on Creativebug.com, and I highly recommend it! I already adored Lizzy House’s fabric designs, so I was pleased to see that she would be one of the designers teaching the course. They take you through the entire process – from inspiration, to designing repeats, to advice on the industry. I even ordered a color map swatch from Spoonflower, and got ridiculously excited when it arrived:

So, that’s what I’ve been up to recently – what are you working on?
